localisation of Sacred Valley in Peru

This valley is located in both sides of the river Vilcanota and their tributaries. Because it is a very fertile area, the Incas established their towns to both margins of the river. These villages exist until now and preserve the majority of their traditions and a lot of constructions.

It was so that these men gave life to the stone and they built:

  • urban centres,
  • palaces,
  • fortresses,
  • agricultural constructions and
  • religious centres.

An important fact of the Inca's technology was that its works harmonise perfectly with nature. They used the natural forces, they dominated the hydraulic engineering, and knew the well use of the earth. For instance, thanks to the "andenerías" (agricultural circular terracing) system, they could sow in abrupt places and avoid the erosion.

The attractiveness of this area can be distinguished for its:

  • impressive landscape (nature and big snowy mountains)
  • pleasant climate
  • fertile lands with abundant water,
  • megalithic cultural evidences
  • people and its traditions
  • practice of adventure tourism.
