Ayacucho, religious capital of Peru - 3 days/2 nights

Ayacucho is the religious capital of Peru. The city has 33 churches. Ayacucho is also located in the heart of the Andes. It is located near several historical sites such as Wari, the capital of one of the largest pre-Incas empire, Quinua, a charming little village specialized in the craft industry, such as ceramic, and the "Ayacucho's Pampa" where a decisive battle took place, which led to independence for South-American peoples. Ayacucho is a historical site, hidden from mass tourism, where you will discover the traditional life of the Andes.

Day 1 : Lima, Ayacucho

City tour in the morning. Wari, Quinua, Pampa de Ayacucho Circuit in the afternoon.

City Tour

The visit of the religious and artisanal capital of Peru will make us discover the many different churches (there are at least 33 churches in the city) and also the beautiful colonial houses. We’ll go to a nice kind of mirador from where we’ll appreciate in only one sight the whole village. We’ll also go to the factories of the artisans specialized on textiles, altarpieces and the carving of Huamanga stones production. We’ll have lunch in a restaurant of the village.

Visit of Wari, Quinua and the Pampa de Ayacucho

By the beginning of the afternoon we’ll go to Wari. We are going to visit the vestiges of the capital of the fabulous pre-Inca civilization of Wari before going to Quinua. It was in this small craftsmen town specialized in ceramics that the Spanish capitulated in the time of the independence war. Then we’ll go to the «Pampa de Ayacucho», the battlefield where the south-American towns won their independence.

Return to Ayacucho.

Transport : Plane

Day 2 : Intihuatana, Vilcashuaman, bosque de Puyas Raimondi Circuit

We’ll leave very early ion the morning towards Vilcashuaman. In the way, in Manallasacc, we’ll discover a Puya de Raimondi «forest». This exceptional plant, survivor of pre-historic times, is similar to pineapples. After a slowly growth, that will last about a century, the Puya emits in 3 months a floral handle of about 4 or 6 meters high. Continuing our way, we’ll visit the Intihuatana Archaeological Center, rest place of the nobility Inca. After a lunch in a local restaurant, we’ll go towards Vilcashuaman, the second most important Inca village after Cusco. In this important administrative and religious center, there has been founded many vestiges from which the most important one is Ushno, a unique sample of the Inca pyramid built in four terraces of granite bricks carefully placed. Return to Ayacucho after this visit.
